Its been 5 years since the passing of the annual Comdex, for those who do not know Comdex was one of the biggest computer expos in the world. From the years 1979-2003 techno wizards from around the world made their annual migration to sin city a few weeks prior to thanksgiving. Armed with their pen protectors and black rimmed glasses they would invade the strip and conversations inside casino’s turned from half point hooks to gigabytes, because of this the locals began to call it geek week.
One of the geeks you might of run into at the poker tables was Bill Gates, who loves to play $3-6 hold’em. I remember talking with a friend of mine who had told me he saw Gates with his security playing poker. I laughed about the lower level game but as he remarked Gates was the richest man in the world and even $5000-$10,000 was penny ante for a guy making $500 a minute, so what further enjoyment would he get from a big game. Think of yourself as moving from playing 1/100 of a penny up to 1/10 of a penny would you feel a difference.
Sorry Bill’s arrest photo wasn’t from counting cards in Vegas, but for speeding in New Mexico during the 70’s. Judging by the picture he doesn’t look to worried about it.
